Types of Digital Signatures  & its validity

DSC are of Class 2 or Class 3 category

Digital signature are generally issued for 1 year or two years validity. It includes the cost of the Aladin USB token and the Digital Signature Certificate in it. It has to renewed after the expiry of the Digital Signature.

Usage

1. Income Tax eFiling

Filing Income Tax Return Online is now possible using Class 2 Digital Certificate. Digital Signature Certificates are issued only to Individuals. It is not mandatory to sign using digital signature for all the Assessees. It is mandatory for those assessees who comes under Audit u/s 44AB. One of the big advantage of Filing Income Tax Returns through Digital Signature is the Assessees do not have to send the manual signed hard copy of  the acknowledgment ITR - V to the Bangalore CPC.

2. MCA - ROC eFiling

Digital Signature Certificates are required for MCA21 e-Governance Project for Filing all the documents (e-Forms) electronically on the MCA portal.

3. TDS eFiling

Digital Signatures can be used for Signing TDS Certificate Form 16 / Form 16A after download from Traces. Recently Traces has also started accepting Revised TDS Return / Statement online authenticated by Digital Signatures.

4. PFE Filing

Signing emails, Signing of any other PDF Documents etc.
